“PLAY TENNIS” – SELF-RATING GUIDE
Find suitable playing partners and enjoy playing tennis more.

How?

  • Use the “Play Tennis” Self-Rating Guide which identifies and describes differentlevels of tennis ability. (See poster in your club or use pocket guide)

Purpose:

  • Find your own general level of tennis ability.
  • Find players of a similar level so that you can have competitive games.
  • Play an individual at a higher level using handicap scoring to make the game morecompetitive.
  • Participate in group lessons or league play with people of similar ability.

Guidelines to rate yourself:

  • Study the “Play Tennis” self-rating chart
  • Start reading from the top of the chart, beginning with Level 1.0.
  • Find the level that best describes your general level of play.
  • Ask your Instructor or Coach to validate your self-rating, if you think that will help.
  • Remember that as you play more, and improve, your rating may improve.
  • Update your rating periodically.
  • Results in social and competitive matches will validate whether your chosen level isreasonably accurate.
CHAMPS PLAYER RATING SCALE

1.0 This player is just starting to play tennis.

1.5 This player has limited playing experience and is still working primarily on getting the ball into play.

2.0 This player needs on-court experience. This player has obvious stroke weaknesses but is familiar with basic positions for singles and doubles play.

2.5 This player is learning to judge where the ball is going although court coverage is weak. This player can sustain a slow rally with other players of same ability.

3.0 This player is consistent when hitting medium pace shots, but is not comfortable with all strokes and lacks control when trying for directional intent, depth, or power.

3.5 This player has achieved improved stroke dependability and direction on moderate pace shots, but still lacks depth and variety. This player exhibits more aggressive net play, has improved court coverage and is developing teamwork in doubles.

4.0 This player has dependable strokes, including directional intent, on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success. This player occasionally forces errors when serving and teamwork in doubles is evident.

4.5 This player has begun to master the use of power and spins and is beginning to handle pace, has sound footwork, can control depth of shots, and is beginning to vary tactics according to opponents. This player can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve and is able to rush the net successfully.

5.0 This player has good shot anticipation and frequently has an outstanding shot or attribute around which a game may be structured. This player can regularly hit winners or force errors off of short balls, can put away volleys, can successfully execute lobs, drop shots, half volleys and overhead smashes, and has good depth and spin on most second serves.

5.5 This player has developed power and/or consistency as a major weapon. This player can vary strategies and styles of play in a competitive situation and hits dependable shots in a stress situation.

6.0 These players will generally not need NRTP rankings. Rankings or past rankings will speak for themselves. The 6.0 player typically has had intensive training for national tournament competition at the junior level and collegiate levels and has obtained a sectional or national ranking.

6.5 The player has a reasonable chance of succeeding at the 7.0 level and has extensive satellite tournament experience.

7.0 The is a world class player who is committed to tournament competition on the international level and whose major source of income is tournament prize winnings.

Questions or Concerns

Is the Champs Sports Center licensed by the government authorities?

Yes, it is licensed by the Ministry of Sports & Culture.

Are coaches working at the Champs Tennis Center with skills and experience in tennis training?

The Ministry of Culture and Sports grants the license only after screening & confirming the experience certificates of the concerned trainers.

What services does the Champs Tennis Center offers?

At present we offer tennis, taekwondo, kickboxing training only.

What age groups can be enrolled in the Champs Tennis Center?

Three years and above, and each level is classified and determined by the appropriate group.

Where are the tennis courts are located?

Our Tennis Center is located at AlBidda Park (Corniche).

Are parents allowed to choose the time and days of their choice?

We are always keen on distributing the groups’ schedules suggested by parents, but we encounter some obstacles due to age & level factors, so we assign a player so they receive quality tennis coaching.

Do you have tennis training programs for ages four years?

We have a four-year training program called Toddler Tennis, a unique program for identifying talent and skills.

What is the Fees for Toddler Tennis Program?

QAR 750 per month.

What is the training duration for Baby Tennis how many times per week?

45 minutes only, and twice a week.

How many players are in each Toddler Tennis training group?

Maximum 12 players.

Are there training programs for adults?

Yes, we do have tennis programs for adults, men & women.

What are the prices and offers available to adults?

What is an intensive tennis plan?

Thrice a week – 12 hours/month – For players who are passionate about tennis and want to become tournament tennis players

Both

What is the registration process?

After receiving your request, our official will contact you and inform you of the assessment test time and date.

What are the training times for kids?

Around 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm during school season.

What are the fees for kids' & juniors' tennis programs?

How many lessons per week for kids?

Regular  = Twice a week = Total 8 hours a month

Intensive  = Thrice a week = Total 12 hours a month

What is the lesson duration?

One hour.

Will the training be in a group or individually?

For Kids, it will be in groups.

How many players are in each kid's group?

Six players maximum.

Are adults also obliged to fill out the form and sign the agreement?

Yes

I do not have a partner or a colleague who wants to play tennis. What should I do?

Champs Tennis Center will keep you on the priority list as we receive entries. We will call you and inform you of the time and date.

What about private tennis coaching?

Does the Champs Tennis Center provide transportation for players?

No.

Does the Champs Tennis Center provide tennis rackets, shoes, and clothing?

No, it is the responsibility of the player

Is the Champs Tennis Center operating throughout the year?

Yes

What type of surface is the tennis court?

Hard court

What if I am absent from training due to emergency reasons?

Players absent for an emergency reason, e.g. (sickness), will be compensated for lessons.

What should I do after enrolling online?

You will receive a confirmation of time, date & location to attend the tennis lessons.
